Players at Whitehaven AFC are set to benefit from fresh investment into local grassroots sports facilities thanks to a £32796 grant from the Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation.
This investment will enable Whitehaven AFC to continue to maintain our pitches and keep them at a high standard for all of our players.
These improved facilities will represent a significant improvement on the existing pitches, which are currently in need of some attention.
This project has also been supported by an additional £10932 from the clubs maintenance budget.

Luke Johnston, Chairman Whitehaven AFC said:
“A huge thanks to The Football Foundation for this grant. It has enabled us to not only purchase a new tractor after ours blew up last year, but also enabled us to invest in some other machinery, allowing us to complete maintenance activities such as slitting and seeding ourselves, drastically reducing costs to subcontractors.”
Robert Sullivan, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said:
“The Football Foundation is working closely with our partners – the Premier League, The FA and Government – to transform the quality of grassroots facilities in England by delivering projects like this across the country.

“Good quality playing facilities have a transformative impact on physical and mental health and play an important role in bringing people together and strengthening local communities.
“This grant award to Whitehaven AFC towards Pitch Maintenance is fantastic news for the local community and will help give more people access to a great place to play.”

The tractor will also be receiving a new name in April when players from Whitehaven AFC who have entered a competition to name it will be unveiled. The chosen winnner will have their name printed onto the tractor, alongside some prizes and photo with the new machine!!
