Billy Redden, First Team Manager and Head Coach is to leave Whitehaven AFC.
Billy will be leaving Whitehaven AFC today 9th May 2021 after 18 months in charge of the first team. He joined the club in November 2019 and has steered the team through the most difficult time in the clubs history, the coronavirus pandemic.
The West Lancashire Football League which the first team compete in has been voided twice over the past 12 months during the pandemic. We then became part of the Regional Cup and competed with teams such as Hawcoat Park and Vickerstown. The turbulent times have never once put a dampener on Billy’s spirit or commitment to not only the team but the club as well.
Luke Johnston, Club Chairman and Director said “The club wishes Billy well as he leaves the club. He has drove positivity into the lads over the past few months and kept them motivated through a very difficult time. He has been the driving force behind developing the senior football setup since joining the club in 2019 and it has been a pleasure supporting him with this since becoming chairman almost a year ago. He has a lot of respect for the players and they really do look up to him. We are constantly looking at ways to not only improve the first team but the club as a whole and Billy has played an important role in this. Throughout his time he he has contributed significantly with selfless integrity and great character and for that we are ultimately grateful. I wish him the best of luck in the future”.
Luke Added: "Further announcements regarding the management of our senior football teams will be made in due course".
