Parents, coaches and players of the Whitehaven Amateurs Football club rallied together to donate numerous bags of food to the Whitehaven branch of the North Lakes Foodbank.
The donation was coordinated by Reserve team player Finlay Bedford. Finlay had recently raised funds for the Foodbank whilst volunteering on the Nation Citizen Service (www.wearencs.com) during the summer. He then approached the club to ask if the Whitehaven AFC Community could come together and collectively donate to the Foodbank.
The club players, coaches and parents all agreed that this was a great idea, with all age group teams from Under 5 to Seniors each dropping off items to the club for over a 2 week period.
Finlay said 'After raising funds for the Foodbank in the summer, I was delighted with the response from the club when I approached them to help. Everyone was more than happy to help with donations, it's great to see our Chartered Standard Community Club doing this.'
Liz Bland from the Foodbank said 'We are delighted to see such a donation and have been overwhelmed by the support from the local community, with our donation points at Tesco doing brilliantly'
