Whitehaven Amateurs U18's welcomed Stanwix FC for a County Cup Plate Semi Final played on the 3G.
The game set off at a great pace with both teams moving the ball nicely.
Amateurs broke the deadlock with a classy bit of ball retention, culminating with a lovely pass from Michael Dinsdale to Aaron 'AJ' Sorinao who calmly fired a low shot into the corner.
AJ then added another, heading a powerful goal from an inch perfect Corey Todd cross.
Amateurs were playing the better of the two sides in the first half with any chance for Stanwix been swept away by the impressive Cohen McAlone & Joseph Brennan.
The 2nd half saw Stanwix find their flow, but found themselves trailing 3-0. A cross in from William Starkey found Ethan Green, who following a chest control and touch, fired an overhead kick above and beyond the impressive Stanwix goal keeper.
Cai Docherty entered the game in the 2nd half, and not for a series of world class saves from the Stanwix keeper, Cai could easily have had a hat trick.
Rather than drop their heads, Stanwix to their credit, rolled up their sleeves and went again. 3 goals were scored from Stanwix without reply. 3-3 now the score.
Amateurs woke up and the impressive Travis Fyfe picked up a through ball and following a great dribble, slotted home. 4-3 to Amateurs.
Stanwix came back again late in the game to force extra time. 4-4 after 90 mins.
The 1st period of extra time saw Amateurs have the slight wind advantage back, and with that they were eager to gain the advantage. Following a quick throw and passage of play, Travis Fyfe burst through and lofted the ball over the keeper. 5-4 at the extra time interval.
Having learned the lessons from the gaining wind, Amateurs defended far better in this period and looked to counter to seal the game. Travis Fyfe sealed his hat trick with another slick dribble, and a tight slot home.
Stanwix did pull one back in the last minute following a poor goal kick, but no more time was available for them to pull it back.
6-5 the final score, in what must have been a great game for the neutral.
